I’m looking to buy a set of fog lights I just don’t know what’s up to buy. My main concern is how to write these things get. How did I categorize fog lights and I’ll break they are. I know what headlights they use the thousands numbers on how bright they are. How did I categorize albright the fog lights are the themselves?

I have these light assemblies that are rusting and I have a bad feeling the rust is going to get in the wiring harness too. Is there a way I can remove the rust without sanding the stuff down?

Its like my lights kind of flicker when the fog light assemblies move around some. This rust is a huge issue and I don’t even know what to do. My wheels are starting to rust too in spots. Is there anything I can do to help this fog light assembly out?

I went to my local fleet store in search of some random fog light like assemblies I could use, and I came up with some implemation lights. I’m pretty sure they use these lights for farming and such. I was wondering if these make for good fog lights?

I went for the idea without getting any feedback from anyone here. These lights are super bright and I like them that way.so just so everyone knows, these lights work well on cars.

I was talking to a couple of my friends and there trying to tell me that hids are illegal. I didn’t believe them but maybe someone here can.

Are hid lights or fog lights illegal?

You may ask yourself, why are yellow fog lights becoming popular. Well.. that would technically take a census type survey to figure out.. but in my opinion I would say that anything color different from the average everyday color we see is going to be cooler than the norm and usual of every driver.

As soon as everyone is doing the same thing and use to the same thing, it is just a small amount of time to where people desire WHAT IS DIFFERENT. People in the automotive industry strive to have things like no one else’s on their vehicles. Even if it takes thousands of hours and work or thousands upon thousands of dollars. Automotive lighting is just a small entry entry of this type of stuff.

Obtaining Fog Lights

When one thinks of purchasing some fog lights, where is the first place people think of to go..? I’ll tell you where they go. They go to their local auto parts store. I know this because I asked a bunch of my buddies where they would go to buy them. The only problem to this is a couple of things.

The reason I know these things by the way, are because I have walked down this path already and it has inspired me to do some typing on the whole matter. Can you believe that.. it has driven me to type this entire entry.. YUP. I’m the type of guy, where once he gets frustrated, he likes to help others not make the same mistake/s.

My journey finding yellow fog lights was quite the dilemma. I suppose I could of found some dollar store worth fog lights, but I’m not that type of person.. I enjoy quality products when it comes to electronics and lighting. but enough about me and back to starting my journey of getting my yellow fog lights.

Are Yellow Fog Lights Seen Better By Other Drivers?

This is mainly just my opinion, but I’m going to say YES. Ask yourself this. When you see yellow fog lights on the road, are they easy to see? My answer is yes. It may be just the reason that they are a different color than all of the other fog lights out there. I think they are seen by other drivers better than white ones for sure.

I got to thinking and figured out that semi trucks use yellow lights all over their trucks. I believe it is because yellow is seen easier than other colors. Granted, they can’t use the colors red, and blue because those are the colors of the law enforcement, but they do get the job done. So you can take what you must out of this idea.

Although Autoanything.com says yellow fog lights are not brighter. I agree with the idea of them not necessarily being brighter, but the fact of people seeing them easier I DO AGREE WITH. It’s all opinion on what you think until I find hard evidence to prove this. Let me know if you know of details that might answer this or help us out here.

What Types of Yellow Fog Lights Are There?

There are a couple of different routes that one can take when getting yellow fog lights.

1. HIDs – These are new best route. These are the lights that when you see them, you think to yourself, “wow those things are bright! Those cannot be legal.” Most new sports cars have these right now. The HIDs are really starting to catch on now. One needs a projection light setup if you want to upgrade to HIDs. There are yellow fog lights in these though.

2. Yellow Bulbs – These are just regular old school bulbs that have sort of a yellow filament. These are just regular bulbs. They make them in any color pretty much. The glass is colored and that is what makes the color of the light.

3. Film – Tinted film can be put over the light covers to make the lights a certain color. In my opinion, this is the weakest of all methods. In my past, Ive seen these films fail with extreme weather conditions and the film also dims the light exposure through the darn film. It’s almost like smoked tail lights in a way. It dims down the light exposure through the light itself.

There a couple of things to watch for when buying bulbs in the whole act of trying to achieve getting yellow lights and or yellow fog lights. A very simple thing to remember about bulbs is..

Lower Wattage Bulbs EQUALS Longer Life

Of course there are going to be ideas that conquer this to be false.. but this is how it has been for years and will most likely stay like this for a couple of decades to come. I am aware of the whole HID scene somewhat changing the whole idea of bulbs in general, but that is more of a gas type thing than actual old school bulbs.

I have found that people are trying to get yellow fog lights for the complete look of just he yellow part of it and not for actual use. I’m not going to judge that, but only give some advice. If your looking to get that yellow fog lights look, than maybe go with a film over the lights.

This way the yellow film looks yellow even when the lights are off too.. But it is totally your call. I guess it would depend on,  how big your lights actually are and if that whole film idea would even matter. Here is somewhat of a good thread from fitfreak.com too. Yellow Daytime Running Lights / Bulbs

Yellow running lights are kind of a cool idea, and look awesome if you ask me. Not sure about legalities and the laws on them, but I guess you will find out if your that determined. I figure the cops always give ya a couple warnings in advance anyhow. There are a couple of different methods to go about doing this in a vehicle.

1. Yellow Bulbs

Good luck finding the make for your car and actually having them last a descent life.. but if you can, ALL THE POWER TO YA. From what I hear, this is the toughest of all the methods to do this. This one is probably the best for light output though. This will give you the most light output of the methods because the colored glass on the bulbs is so close to the the light source of the bulb.

2. Colored Film

This was talked about a bit before. They make film that you can heat and wrap around your lights to give it a color look and scene. And when the light shines through the glass.. Bam.. you have light. This is a lot like window tint or smoked tail lights.

3. Tinted Capsule Bulb Covers

Not sure if that’s the correct term to use for them. But there almost like a “colored contact” as what would go to a human eye TO THE BULB and light fixture. It mounts right in front of the bulb in casement.

1. Unlatch your hood and get ready to start taking apart the lights.

2. Remove the head light lamps and separate them from the car itself. The back of the bulbs usually turn a certain radius and just come right out. Almost like a twist and turn type motion. Maybe yours have little latches.. not sure. But they need to come out no matter what.

3. Remove the halogen part of the light and we are ready for the next portion.

4. Take out the old bulbs that are on your vehicle and assemble the new bulb setup that you pre-ordered for your car. These should be a pretty good fit.. and if not, you may have got the wrong model for your car, but I’m not going to jump into that.

5. Your going to need to somehow jump your old bulb wires into the new hid setup to let the setup know when to turn on and off with the vehicle.

6. Next, we need more power being brought to the new brighter hid kit. The new bulbs take more power and we need to some how get it. There will be some sort of an aux wire that needs to hook up to the positive side of the battery. Almost like an auto amplifier in a way. Some kits need to be grounded.. others do not.

7. Make sure the HID lamp setup is secure and re-install the setup into the lamp of your cars actual  head light lamp.

8. Test..

9. If problems.. go back steps and troubleshoot where you went wrong..

10. If they work.. ENJOY!
