Yellow Fog Lights Color

Why Are Yellow Fog Lights The Best Color For Fog?

I was just wondering why the color yellow helps so much better than any other color in fog..? It is actually quite interesting and I would love to know the facts behind it if you guys know of any. If not maybe you could just post this question here, and others can post comments if they know.

Thanks for sending in the great question Cindy. And of course were going to post your question live! We love getting questions and answering them to the best of our knowledge. And if our knowledge is not enough, others can jump in and post what they think as well.

The answer comes down to “Light Wavelengths.”

Different lights on the vehicle give out different colors which also give out different wavelengths. Different colors give out different levels of waves of light.. to rephrase it a little bit.

When driving outside, certain lights give out wavelengths of emissions that allow the driver to see a certain amount of stuff while driving. Depending on the color and power the bulb gives out.. will depend on how much emission of light wave length a person will see.

IN ENGLISH:

Yellow fog lights add more light wavelengths to the spectrum of your lighting in front of your vehicle. When you have that variety of the usual white auto lighting mixed with the yellow waves, you have a better seen vision. On top of it, yellow is a very well seen wave of light in fog. It just so happens to work just like that.

There are probably two thousand different ways to explain that, but that is our way here. We try to know as much as possible about yellow fog lights emissions and fog lighting in general.

Best Color Fog Lights?

What Color Fog Lights Should I go With?

I have officially made the decision to install fog lights in my vehicle. We have some very foggy days around here and to be honest, I just need more light most of the time. It seems like my lights are getting dimmer with all the new upcoming bulbs out there on new vehicles. What are some of my options here? I would very much appreciate any help or direction given.

Thanks for sending in the great question Judy. Lighting is a huge deal when it comes to driving on our dangerous roads of today. Every extra bit of lighting really helps when it comes to you and families safety. Let’s jump into answering your question though.

To be at all honest, there really isn’t much evidence on what color of light does the best for fog. There are a bunch of sites out there with scientists admitting this as well too. It somewhat sucks, but it’s just the math of the story.

What they do say though, is that different color light patterns go through things like fog at a different pace. It is a pretty complex spectrum of light to get into actually. For instance, at times a dimmer light is going to work better for vision than a brighter one. Another variableĀ  that plays a big roll is temperature of light. I know it may sound funny, but there are so many variables to a different light structure.

But to answer your question with all honesty, you should get fog lights because they are an awesome additive to your vehicle. What can more lighting hurt? Nothing in my opinion. If anything, you may want to worry about others. Because a person can almost get too bright of a setup and that can hurt other people’s eyes on the roads.

There are actually state laws here too in the United States for having lights to a set maximum so that we do not blind others on the road. So maybe look into that too before you upgrade to a 20,000 watt hid bulb setup. If your looking to get a fog that helps in fog, I think a yellow or amber color will help you best. Or you can buy white fogs and just get a yellow amber color glass spray paint and do it yourself. There are really so many different options out there for a person like you Judy. Just do a bit of research around here, and I’m positive you will find a great choice.

Thanks for visiting the site Judy!

Fog Light Tint a Good Idea?

Is it a good idea to tint my fog lights or just buy new ones?

I have fog lights in my bumper of my car and they fit ever so nicely. I was wondering if tinting the fogs would be a bad idea. The main concern I have is how to do it, and how much light percentage I will loose out of the original setup I have. Any help would be appreciated.

Tinting your fog lights is going to reduce the light escaping your fog lamps and bulbs, but it is going to be the easiest and cheapest method possible for you. If it were me, I would just simply use some glass tint and go with that. Maybe make sure your bulb is not getting too hot though.

Too hot of bulbs can really bake that glass paint to a whole new level. And from what I have seen, you do not want that to happen. So if the bulb does not get the lamp and glass too hot, go with glass spray paint. It will turn out almost like a color tint on the glass of the lamp.

This question gets brought to our attention a lot, and to be quite honest it is a hard one to sit sides with. If it were me, I would get new yellow bulbs instead of painting your lamp a different color. Number one, that darn glass paint has a tendency to just turn out like crap with all the heating coming from the lamp and bulb itself.

Second hand, when the coloring is on the bulb and actually closer to the actual lighting source, it has a tendency to give off more light outside of the car. A lot of times, with yellow fog lights people buy the colored bulb and colored lenses.

Therefor, you have two lenses that are tinted and your doubling your light percentage that is NOT let through. A person may loose 10-15 percent of light with the tint idea on the bulb or lamp. But if you throw both of the tint on the bulb and lamp, your percentage is double that then.

ALL IN ALL, I would get some glass tint spray paint and just paint your fog lenses. You are happy with your fog lamp and everything. So just paint it and if the light is not enough, maybe look into upgrading the fog light bulb.

Best Place To Buy Fog Lights?

Where Is The Best Place To Buy Fog Lights?

I was thinking about putting fog lights in our family suburban, and was wondering where the best place is to buy fog lights. Also wondering about small things like, can I buy any fog light for our vehicle? Or do I need special fogs to hook up to my particular vehicle? How about does a person go wiring themĀ  if I do not have an auxillary hookup for the fog lights. Help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Fog lights can be found at so many different places now, that it blows my mind. Freight stores, your local walmart, and pretty much any other store that you think that may sell them. These fog light things are really starting to catch on quick. People have started to realize that getting more light out of your vehicle may be a bigger deal than what we just anticipated in the 1980′s.

On the vehicle, depending on how new it is. There may or may not be an auxillary hook up. It usually tends to be right by the headlight wires. Follow the wires around the lighting area of the car and see if you can find some sort of hookup designed specifically for hooking up extra lights to your vehicle.

If your vehicle does not have the hookup, then your going to want to visit a guide on how to wire fog lights to your vehicle by themselves. We host a great guide here, but it’s totally up to you where you want to visit to learn that. It pretty much is consisted of wiring up some things in the fuse box like a relay and it’s own setup for the lights in the fuse box and such. Not too hard, but not too easy for you to fall asleep.

Go to Fleetfarm! If there happens to be one around you, do it! No, I’m just yanking your chain on a specific place but fleetfarm happens to be a pretty good source for fog lights and just general automotive stuff. I’ve learned what works descent for people, is to buy implemation lights that go on tractors and such and TINT the lense. If a person does not tint the lense, the light itself tends to be a bit on the bright side. Just an idea for ya. Make sure to tint the glass though. Just to save on others eyes while driving.

Just like the “guy” said above me with wiring, he is right on with every word he said. I wont get too much into detail.. Just maybe make sure not to cut corners and small parts when wiring things to a vehicle. So many people just tie into their headlight wires and it causes for so many problems to occur down the road.
